Master the Art of Candle Care – Ensure a Perfect Burn Every Time

Caring for your Polaris candles is essential for achieving the perfect burn and maximizing fragrance dispersion. To start, always trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn. This prevents the flame from becoming too large, which can lead to sooting and uneven burning. A properly trimmed wick helps maintain the candle’s integrity and ensures a cleaner burn.

Proper candle care not only preserves the life of your candle but also enhances its fragrance release. By burning your candle for the recommended amount of time and keeping the wick properly trimmed, you ensure that the candle burns the wax more efficiently, releasing a richer, more consistent fragrance. It’s important to avoid short burns where the candle doesn’t get the chance to fully pool across the top, as this can cause tunneling which wastes wax and reduces the candle’s lifespan.

Create the Ideal Burning Experience

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the wax melts across the entire surface to the sides of the container. This process, known as the ‘first burn,’ is crucial because it prevents tunneling, ensuring an even burn in future uses. We recommend burning your Polaris candle for no more than four hours at a time. After extinguishing the flame, let the candle cool completely before relighting.

Safety and Maintenance

Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, pets, and anything flammable. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and always keep it out of reach of children. After each use, ensure the wax pool is clear of wick trimmings, matches, or any combustible material. When not in use, store your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve its fragrance and appearance.

The Final Inches

As you near the end of your candle’s life, safety becomes even more crucial. Never burn your candle all the way down to the container. Discontinue use of your candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom. Continuing to burn past this point can overheat the container, risking damage to underlying surfaces or even causing the glass to break.

Cleaning and Repurposing Candle Jars

Once your candle has reached its end, the vessel can be given a new lease on life. To clean out the remaining wax, place the candle jar in the freezer for a few hours. Once the wax hardens, it can easily be removed with a knife. Remove any leftover residue with warm, soapy water. Your Polaris candle jar can now serve a multitude of new purposes, from a plant pot for small succulents to a chic holder for your makeup brushes or office supplies.
